For example, if an insurance company is increasing premiums for someone who is still living, that is not the type of case we handle. If someone is applying to buy a life insurance policy and they were denied coverage, we do not handle those types of cases. The general rule is that unless there has been a death or serious injury, it is not a type of case we handle.

Often times, insurance companies demand that beneficiaries answer questions and provide them with the names of all medical providers the insured visited, and all medications the insured took, in addition to executing medical authorization release forms that entitle the insurance company to access all of the insurer's health data. The insurance company is entitled to retrieve medical data and records as part of its contestability investigation, so you will have to sign one or more forms to authorize the release of the insured's medical history, but that's where your cooperation should end. The reason they are asking you these questions is to try to get out of paying your claim. You are not required by law or the policy language to assist them with their efforts to deny you. Therefore, do not sit for an interview or answer a questionnaire, do not provide them with the name of any doctors the insured visited or medications the insured took, and certainly do not discuss your claim with the insurance company or its outside investigators without the assistance of counsel.
